Abstract

|
Of 190 patients with mitral valvular disease, seen at the in-patient clinic of the German Red Cross Ho
spital in pusan, from Jan. 1956 to March 1959 the prevalence of auricular fibrillation was as follows: among 34 cases with mitral stenosis, 6(17,6%) ; 77 cases with combined mitral stenoinsufficiency with mild regurgitation, 16(20.9%); 56 cases with combined mitral stenoinsufficiency with marked regurgitation, 27(48.2?/.); 23 cases with mitral insuffiiency only, none (0%).
In mitral stenosis, age of patient and duration of the valvular defect was the decisive factors for the
occurence of auricular fibrillation, the degree of insufficiency and the size of the left auricle being less important.
In combined mitra steno insufficiency with marked regurgitation the size of the left auricle . was decisive
for the occurrence of the auricular fibrillation: other factors played a subordinate role.
Cases of combined mitral stenoinsufficieincy with mild regurgitation took an intermediate Position.
The cases with mitral insufficiency failed to develop auricular fibrillation, although left auricular
enlargement was always presented moderate to marked.
